Picasa is not the only application blocked in China. Facebook was also blocked in 2009, along with Twitter, YouTube , BlogSpot and Vimeo. As these social media websites are based in Western countries (mostly the United States), China cannot force them to filter content for Chinese users. In that situation, China opts to block the website’s access altogether. China has only a small handful of ISPs, all of which are controlled by the government. Upon request, these ISPs will block various websites like Picasa at the ISP level, disallowing anyone using those ISPs to access those blocked websites. Need your help please. I got problem. When there was a porn ad showing up, I tried to get out of it but it was installed on my phone. And then the fbi bureau of investigation blocked my screen asking for a pin. The screen is black, and the only other options I can do is turn off or restart my phone. Well, I have this message popping up saying that I have 4 viruses and my device is 28.1% damaged, telling that I need to install some apps to remove it. I didn’t follow but googled around. It turned out that many of the reviews say it isn’t legitimate and that it does not remove the pop ups. The problem is I can’t even use Google Chrome anymore because it is constantly popping up. Besides, it says it came from adult content which I know can be risky so I don’t know if it’s real or not. It says it’ll lock my phone in a day every time I keep clicking the back space. What can I do to get rid of the “four viruses”? Please help.

China has the most Internet users in the world today. And there are lots of the Internet restrictions in this country. Among blocked sites are such popular sites as Google services (including Gmail, Google maps, Google docs and others) YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, VOIP services like Skype and Snapchat and tones of others popular resources. So if you are going to China, you need to care about your Internet freedom in advance.
The Chinese censorship authorities will block any site which they deem to contain material detrimental (even tangentially) to the Chinese Communist Party. The way they do this is by blocking at the IP address level. A crude tool indeed. Most websites in the world are hosted on Shared Hosting Accounts so if an IP address gets red flagged it could potentially impact hundreds of other sites hosted on the same server, using the same IP address.
