PUP.wxDfast is a malicious Trojan parasite that sneaks into targeted computer and wreaks chaos in the background. It can drop more threats to the corrupted machine to increase the risk of security. The virus can be attached to email attachments, programs you have downloaded, or even from your computer’s operating system vulnerabilities. Your antivirus keeps showing you the presence of this Trojan but doesn’t provide an executable method for you to uninstall it. The virus can keep coming back after every reboot. It may also change your Internet settings and redirect all your searching results to hundreds of malicious websites. It is noted that the main purpose of the virus is to enable cyber criminals to gain remote access to the compromised PC system. It runs high risk for the infected computers. Hence, users should remove it as soon as possible to avoid further damages.
1. Show hidden files and folders.
Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files and folders, uncheck Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) and then click OK.
2. Open Registry entries. Find out the malicious files and entries and then delete all.
Attention: Always be sure to back up your PC before making any changes.
a. Press the “Start” button and then choose the option “Run”. In the “Open” field, type “regedit” and click the “OK” button.
b. All malicious files and registry entries that should be deleted:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\”Shell” = “[PUP.wxDfast].exe”
