YouTube has announced it won’t maintain a separate app targeting gaming and live game streaming in a blog post on 18 September. The YouTube Gaming app will be sunset sometime next spring.
To make gaming experience on YouTube better, YouTube launched YouTube Gaming, a standalone app for gamers in 2015. From this app, YouTube can test new features for better discoverability, Super Chat and Channel Memberships to help fans show support for their favorite creators, Dark Theme and even a new live streaming platform based on the gaming community’s feedback. This app has been a great place for game creators and viewers who like to watch live and recorded esports in the past years. According to data from Sensor Tower, the app has over 200 million installs across iOS and Android. However, YouTube Gaming will be shut by March 2019.
According to the post, YouTube is to launch a new Gaming destination to give gamers a home on YouTube. The new Gaming section will be added within the core YouTube app. You will see a personalized gaming content section based on what content you like to watch at the very top of the page. Besides, the top live games and the latest gaming videos section from your subscriptions will be shown. It brings the best of uploaded videos and live gaming to one destination. There will also be dedicated shelves for live streams and trending videos. YouTube will showcase a new up and coming gaming creator every week to help more fans discover their content. Gaming creators will have greater experience with the new gaming section because YouTube is committed to helping gaming creators succeed and look forward to seeing how you all continue to shape the future of gaming. The new feature will come to the US first. Are you looking forward the new gaming destination?
