Remove Department of Justice Virus From iPhone/iPad in Safari

I was browsing the Internet on my iPhone6 and out of no where Department of Justice virus came up in Safari saying I was accused of illegal internet browsing such as pornography, child pornography, women ejaculation and downloading pirated software such as music, videos, and programs. It asked for me to pay a $500 fine within 24 hours, with a paypal reloadable card that could be bought from any store, or else I would fall under criminal acts. Every time I tried to close the page, it would open again and again. That’s really frustrating. I have heard many people saying this DOJ pop-up is fake, but my question is what happen if I don’t remove it in 24 hours? Will it really block my iPhone and erase my Apple ID and photos etc.? Can it steal my personal information?

Fake Department of Justice Pop-up Warning Description:

More and more iPhone and iPad users are reporting their devices have been compromised, with a ‘Department of Justice message’ appearing that locks them out and crashes their Safari or Chrome browser, and then demands a fine of $500 ransom be sent to the hackers over PayPal. Actually this DOJ pop-up is a scam and it is as similar as FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) virus which mainly targets users from USA, and PCeU virus (as known as Paysafecard or Ukash virus) which focuses on users from European countries, especially UK. The virus is created by cyber hackers to scare innocent iPhone or iPad users and then block them out of their web browser (like Safari, Chrome or Firefox) and trick them into paying a non-existent $500. Most people may wonder how they got this fake DOJ pop up on the iPhone/iPad. Actually this virus can be installed silently when you visit infected website or click on malicious advertisements. Also it can pop up while you are visiting pornographic website or downloading attachment from spam emails.

“Hi, I was on the internet and a DOJ warning came up on my iPad saying I violated the laws because I watched some kind of child abuse, rape, zoophilia, ect. It blocked me out of Safari so I can not use my Internet at all. It said I have to pay $500 to enter a moneypak card code or it would erase all my apple ID photos and such. So what is this? i got a little scared. Is it real?”

“Well, I believe I accidentally downloaded Department of Justice Virus on my iPhone. I’m just really scared and freaked out. The virus crashed my Safari app so I cannot surf Internet anymore. It said I have been caught visiting forbidden pornography websites or disturbing illegal materials so i have to pay $500 fine or it will lock my iPhone and completely delete my Apple ID, photos and videos etc. It had my location and IP address. But I have never distributed anything in my life. I have read several sources that they say this is a scam, but I am still worried. So how do i get rid of it without also ruining my phone? I don’t want to give my personal details out to people. And I don’t know if the DOJ or FBI is going to track me down and knock down my door and cuffing me. Please help.”

As mentioned above, Department of Justice Virus has become a big threat that makes many Apple users upset and nervous. Generally speaking, this malware works like other Ransomware that can disguise itself as a warning from the alleged DOJ, FBI, or other authorities like Interpol, United States Courts and FBI Cybercrime Division, then pop up on target devices without any permission. Once it is in, it uses javascript to hijack user’s web browser, mainly on Safari, and then misleads them paying a fine using prepaid card services such as Moneypak, Paypal or Ukash. The fraudulent penalty fine can range anywhere from $100, $250, $300, to $500. Users who were not aware of that and mistakenly paid the fine will only bring cyber criminals thousands of dollars in profit. People should know a fact that DOJ malware only takes your money but not resolves anything even if a fine is paid. And the thing it mentioned on its page will never happen. It is just a scare tactic trying to make you pay the non-existent file. This kind of notice is not really from Department of Justice or any other legitimate authorities. So don’t rush to pay for the fine and think logically, if the DOJ were watching your internet activity, would they just show you a notice telling you and giving you the opportunity to destroy the evidence? Of course not. This is just a trick designed by the awful cyber hackers. Therefore, when you see a Department of Justice virus message on your iPhone or iPad, the right thing you have to do is to ignore what it says and immediately get rid of it.
