What is “This Program contained a virus and was deleted” Alert? How to Fix it?

“This Program contained a virus and was deleted” is an alert showing on Internet Explorer browser when a user tried to download files or programs. It is related to a malicious virus that can function in most versions of Windows, including Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. This virus blocks users to download any files or programs from the Internet. As soon as the files/programs are downloaded, they will be deleted at once at the same time. And users will get a prompt if they are using Internet Explorer browser which says ‘ This Program contained a virus and was deleted‘.  But using other browsers like Firefox, Google Chrome will not give you any alerts, it just shows nothing and prevents you from opening the programs or files you downloaded.

Although this issue happened on target computers a long time ago, it still made users frustrated. Someone may think it must be something wrong with Firewall or Antivirus program but it is not. Actually this alert is caused by a Trojan which can contact a remote server and download other malware including rogue programs. It brings an annoyance to all the PC users. The vast majority of users complain that system goes slow and they may even experience total crashes in Windows after they get this alert. A trojan can access the computer directly by taking advantage of weakness in Internet browser and security. It allows cyber criminals to track your computer and steal your personal information.

If you get “This Program contained a virus and was deleted” error message showing on IE8, IE9 even for IE10 while you are downloading programs, that means your computer must be infected with other viruses like Trojan Horse Generic29.AJGE or FBI Moneypak Virus etc. With those viruses inside your computer, it definitely ruins the whole system. This problem is hard to be fixed because you are not allowed to download any programs that help to scan your computer. Even by running a security scan from the antivirus program you installed before will not do anything because it always detects nothing and says your computer is clean. Things are not working fine when you download programs or files. Every time you try to click  “run”, “save” and “save as” option while downloading things, you will find none of these options work. All you can get is the error message “This Program contained a virus and was deleted.” If you have spent several hours in fixing this problem, please read more on this article which helps to remove this error permanently.

My computer was infected with a malware before and it’s gone now. However, while downloading a file or program in internet explorer, it still says that the program/file contains a virus and will be deleted.Downloading the same file in Chrome or Firefox works fine. Why?

I have most likely Zero Access Rootkit, as advised previously, I have removed 4 Trojan viruses using windows defender offline and anti malware program. I have now got windows firewall working.  I am still receiving error when downloading “file contained a virus and was deleted”.

Both Firefox and IE9 are giving me this issue when I try to download a file. The file downloads all the way and then just gets eradicated. Not in the recycle bin, not in the virus vault. Chrome does not have this problem, downloads are saving normally.
