Hi, I was completely freaking out! Earlier today I was web searching on my iPhone 6 and suddenly a porn site popped up itself. After that I got a pop up message accusing me of watching child pornography and it said it could lead to 5-8 years and also a £100 fine? The pop up crashed my Safari so I can’t use Internet on my phone now. It says this message is sent by Interpol and Department of Cybercrime, and it asks me to pay a fine using one of payment systems like Ukash, Paysafecard or Paypal. Is it real? Or is it a scam from hackers? How do I get rid of the Interpol warning without paying £100?
These days, many popups are suddenly showing up on iPhone/iPad Safari which block user’s Internet access and even crash their web web browsers. Interpol Virus (aka. Interpol Department of Cybercrime virus) is one of the fake warning popups designed to trick innocent users located in European and North American countries. This virus is categorized as Ransomware that spreads through Spam emails filled with infected attachments, corrupted website and malicious pop-up ads. Once it is installed, it uses malicious JavaScript to ‘lock up’ Internet browsers like Safari and Chrome and then it uses the name of Interpol Department of Cybercrime or other similar authorities to falsely tell the user that the web browser is blocked as a penalty for online crimes like downloading copyright-protected music, watching pornographic videos or distributing illegal contents. Be aware that this alert, which typically reports that if you don’t pay a fine your Apple ID will be blocked and your data will be erased, is completely fake and you must NOT pay the fine but remove Interpol virus from your iPhone or iPad.
Interpol Virus accuses users of viewing child pornography and orders them to pay a fine to avoid federal prosecution so people who are worried or embarrassed about having their online activities uncovered are easy to fall into this scam. According to the block page, this sum needs to be paid via Ukash or PaySafecard, and then a code should be given from this prepaid card, afterwards users need to input the code and submit the payment through the embedded field otherwise a federal case would be opened against them. Paying that fine may look like the only solution to get the phone working fine again but this is not the good choice.
